Addressing the issue of a five year old bed wetting is important. Giving children diuretic beverages like cola and coffee should be avoided, especially close to bed time. These drinks will only make the child more likely to need the bathroom in the middle of the night, adding to the problem.

The parents in situations of five year olds bed wetting must be very careful not to show any anger or impatience towards the child. Doing so might further damage the child’s self esteem and increase their stress levels, both of which are counter productive to solving the bed wetting issue. Kindness and patience should be shown and positive reenforcement used to encourage the child to break the bed wetting habit.

Children should not have their diets changed or be medicated in any way in an attempt to stop bed wetting without direct approval from the child’s doctor. Doing so might add further stress to the child which will not help at all with the underlying problem.
